Our Story

Discover Our Journey So Far

Many years ago, we started as a small group of local families who wanted to teach their children the Deen of Islam and the Quran. Learning began in a local mum’s conservatory, progressing to Manor Community College as more children attended, and then Abu Bakr Islamic School was established at The Grove Primary School in September 1993.

Alhamdu-Lillah, for over 30 years now, we have grown as a school providing Islamic and Quranic Arabic education to children, aged 5 – 12 years old, in Cambridgeshire and the surrounding counties. We have a strong team of diverse and dedicated teachers, teaching assistants and young helpers who voluntarily offer their time and commitment every Saturday to teach.

Our journey has been an inspiring one and every day we thank Allah (SWT) for His blessings and support in keeping us all going! dreams come true.

Our Vision

Our vision is to build a confident, happy community of Muslims who embrace and spread the message of Islam. We aim to prepare our children for the rapidly changing world, where their actions are to please Allah (SWT); benefit society and ultimately achieve their goal of Jannat Al-Firdaous.

Our Curriculum and educational goals

What we aim for our children

To provide a sound Islamic and Quranic Education to children from 5 yrs to 12 yrs old and to help them develop a sense of belonging to the Muslim Community.

To nurture the student’s personality towards the best moral conduct, healthy attitudes and self-discipline in accordance with the teaching of the Quran and Sunnah and to encourage them to develop as responsible citizens, contributing to the well-being of society and of humankind in general.

To enable students to fulfil their obligation to worship Allah (SWT) in the manner that the Quran and Allah’s messenger (SAW) have prescribed.

How we teach:

Teachers plan and deliver lessons that are stimulating and interesting, using a variety of methods such as the Interactive Whiteboard, videos and nasheeds. Activities are engaging and vary from whole class or group discussion to games, puzzles, quizzes and arts and crafts.
Our Islamic Studies syllabus is, supported by the Weekend Islamic Studies curriculum.
In Islamic Studies children start school by learning the basics of Tawheed and move onto fundamental pillars of Islam. They learn about the articles of faith, important role models in our religion, such as Prophet Mohammed (SAW) and the adhab and akhlaq (morals and manners) our role models teach us.
Arabic lessons focus on learning how to read, write and recite small surahs from the Quran from Reception, progressing to larger surahs as children grow, including tajweed, understanding the meaning of surahs, as well as key Arabic words and phrases.
Lessons are adapted to meet the needs of the children, according to their age and ability.
Group teaching as well as one-to-one teaching styles and strategies are used in classes as well as breakout spaces to support all children.
Homework is an important part of ensuring the learning and application of knowledge is continued in children’s everyday life, therefore we regularly set homework for learning Quran, Arabic and Islamic studies.
